Speak out & speak up! – Emor

mouth speak shoutThe name of the sidra is Emor – “Speak!”

There are several ways of speaking – saying something, speaking out and speaking up. Judaism has views about them all.

Saying something entails being knowledgeable and sharing with others what you have found out. Speaking out entails not tolerating the intolerable.

Speaking up entails having the courage to be audible when a point of view requires expression, not wriggling noiselessly and simply whispering and muttering when you have the option of changing things for the better.
