    Living in retirement – Vayyechi

These days retirement goes on much longer (sometimes for quite a number of decades) than it used to. Even if we retire later than the once determinative age of 65 what are we meant to do with our time?

Some people are quite happy to potter around the garden or go travelling. The best answer – if thanks to the Almighty we have reasonable health – is to use the years just before retirement to plan and get started on a new mini-career.

There are so many things we can do to use our energies and talents even if we don’t or can’t make money out of them.

One of my rabbinical colleagues told me, “I know I am retired but I have never been so busy!”
