A man found him – Vayyeshev

When Joseph was lost and looking for his brothers, “a man found him” (Gen. 37:15).

A Midrashic idea reported by Rashi is that the man was really the angel Gabriel.

According to Ramban, God sent the angel to point Joseph in the right direction.

If we take this notion as a parable for future history, it so often happens to people that a chance encounter is life-changing to such an extent that we later acknowledge that God was giving us a message.
