Egg matzah – Ask the Rabbi

    Q. What is egg matzah and can it be used at the Seder?

    A. Egg matzah has supervised flour mixed with eggs or fruit juice. The Talmud calls it matzah ashirah – “rich matzah”. It is out of place at the Seder where we should have lechem oni, “the bread of affliction” or “poor man’s bread”. Ashkenazim do not allow egg matzah at all during Pesach.
