    Mourning the Temple

Destruction of the Temple, Francesco Hayez, 1867

Destruction of the Temple, Francesco Hayez, 1867

The fast of 17 Tammuz is the beginning of the Three Weeks of disaster culminating in Tishah B’Av.

The prophet Zechariah (8:19) calls it “the fast of the 4th month” and says it will be a time of joy and gladness when the Mashi’ach comes.

Like the fasts of the 5th month (Tishah B’Av), the 7th (the Fast of Gedaliah) and the 10th (the Fast of 10 Tevet), it marks sad events related to the destruction of the Temple.

Anyone who reads the Bible knows that there was a Temple and it was destroyed and rebuilt and destroyed again.

So why does the Christian world, well aware of all this information, not stand up and speak up when historical revisionists deny that there was a Temple and refuse to accept the historic connection of the Jewish people with Jerusalem and the Holy Land?
